I received an email within minutes stating:
“AT&T is now processing your activation.
You will receive an email confirmation once your activation is complete.”
So I connected my iPhone but still no luck and you cannot start using the iPhone without the activation process being complete. Which I find out later.

So all is now updated.
I fired up iTunes and now it sees the iPhone and prompts for activation.
I select to activate and guess what? Stores busy.

So attempted a few more times, no luck. Then waited a minute and I was in

I then went through the form and selected a plan, entered my old number and assigned it my iTunes account info and social security number.

I then came up with a window saying processing and would take about 6 minutes. I’ve got 6 minutes… I just sent the last few hours getting and setting it up. Six minutes is reasonable. Right!!

Plugged in the iPhone and it lights up wanting activation, and iPhoto opened on the mac.

When I ran iTunes immediately it prompted for an update to 7.3. Which makes sense since I have not upgraded it recently. So I installed the updates.

After downloading and installing the update. I ran iTunes again and it did see the iPhone, but prompted that the system needed to be updated to 10.4.10.

Back to Software Update…….

The Apple crew was really pumped and catering to everyone. Lots of cheers and smiles in this store.
After I purchased the iPhone I grabbed some cases to protect the iPhones. The warranty does not cover drops and this is a slippery device.
They announced the Apple Care will be available in about 2 months for $69 which would extend the warranty for one additional year. Unlike all other Apple Care warranties that extend the coverage to a full 3 years. Apple is playing it safe.

You can see behind the Genuis bar that there are tons of iPhones.

Even between the aisle there are more.

Processing the order

The Apple cashier behind mine looks stressed.

The experience at Apple was great!! They brought out water bottles and coffee for all. I got there around 5pm PST to release my son from his chains in the line at the Apple Store. Meanwhile one of his buddies was holding a place in line at the AT&T store. Apple was prompt and efficient. They opened the doors at 6pm sharp and let 30 people in groups. I was out of the store in 45 minutes.
AT&T worked that you get a number and you get an iPhone. Thats it!!! One iPhone.
Apple Store worked that anyone with you let you get two phones. So in all I was able to get a few phones all together. Who will be the lucky ones only they will know.
I have pics and I am logging all the steps to get the iPhones activated.
More to come. Check back later

All response so far is the lines are shorter at the AT&T Store.
The Apple website store will reopen at 6PM. I am sure they are adding the iPhones.
