on the iPhone you can reset the preferences. I have seen this problem now on multiple iPhones, mine I waited a couple days to make sure it wasn't AT&T, but as soon as I reset the settings all worked. The only problem is that you loose your favorites and a few other personal settings.

Here is how you do the reset.

Go to the main screen on the iphone. Then go to Settings. Tap General, then scroll down and tap Reset.

The first option is to Reset All Settings. Tap this option. I DO NOT recommend selecting Erase All Content and Settings, as this would basically put your iPhone back to factory settings and you would have to reconnect to iTunes and start over.

Good luck, Please post your results.

I've had my iPhone for a couple of weeks now. Initial recording of my outgoing greeting was a breeze, but now I want to change it and the record function does not work. Sounds like the same issue. Can you please elaborate on what you mean when you say that you reset the preferences on the iPhone? Exactly what settings did you change? Thanks!

I was an existing at&t customer and when I set up my iphone in itunes it took 53 seconds to complete the phone transfer. In 53 seconds my old Treo was finally gone :-)

I would expect it to transfer sooner. Of the three AT&T reps I spoke with they were doing everything they could to get the numbers to transfer over without delay. The hold up on mine was waiting for Sprint to release the number which is what I expect the case to be with you number transferring with you current provider.

I find the instruction from the AT&T rep that you should just get a new number to be frustrating at best. I have had my same number for over 10 years and I would not want to change it.

The activatons process through iTunes lets you transfer your numbers. I also find changing numbers later to be more of a hassle than not. The one reason is that if you cancel your old service before you transfer the number over you will loose the number.

I begann my activation process last night at 9PM and chose to transfer my number over, and the process went fine until the part where your account is being activated.. and it said "additional time is required to complete" the process.. It is now 13 hours later, and it is still saying that. I finally called ATT and reached a nice person who fisaid I should NOT have tried to transfer the number!! Just get a new number for registration and change it LATER! And for now I must just wait as their system is completely clogged. There is NO WAY to back up and change my options. *&&#!!
